Shipping to Thailand

As a rule of thumb, shipping to Thailand is fairly efficient.  Most packages clear Customs quite easily as their system is well organized and typically runs smoothly.  You are mostly going to be shipping via air mail or ocean cargo freight liners.  They do accept shipment over the border from trucks and delivery vehicles, but those would be shipped from the surrounding countries typically, such as Cambodia or Laos, so that does not happen nearly as often as the air or ocean modes of shipping. 

Shipping destinations in Thailand

Mail can be addressed to refugee camps in Thailand and will get there in one piece typically.  Packages are not typically sent to PO boxes, but in major cities they can be although it is best to check with your shipping company before sending your parcel there.  Some shipping companies will not ship to the more rural areas due to lack of infrastructure and safety concerns for the delivery companies in Thailand proper.  If this is the case with you shipping company, they typically will hold your shipment at a central location in a major city and require the addressee to come and pick it up as opposed to trekking it out to them on the outskirts of town. 

Shipping limitations to Thailand

You are not allowed to ship any firearms, even toy guns for kids, into Thailand unless you get a special permit from the government for doing so beforehand.  But there are some items that you can not send into the country even with a permit such as coins, bank notes, traveler's checks, firing caps or playing cards.  This list is subject to change though so it is best to double check their Customs web site before shipping anything to the country so you don't get an unexpected surprise when your package is returned to sender.
