Security concerns when shipping to Iraq

Shipping to Iraq is a risky proposition, to put it lightly.  There are intense battles raging with the Al Quada at any given hour, compromising the safety of both personnel and infrastructure throughout the country.  Shipping items to military locations throughout Iraq generally tend to get delivered to their intended recipient, but parcels shipped to more rural areas are not that reliably delivered.  Beyond the outward violence experienced throughout Iraq, there are also thievery episodes happening all over to both personal and commercial items being shipped there.  It is best to take extreme caution when sending anything over there and do not send anything that can not be replaced. 

Preparing your shipment to Iraq

Your shipping company will be able to help prepare your smaller shipments and parcels before you ship them to Iraq.  Many companies, such as FedEx, UPS and DHL, have shipping supplies for you to use as well, such as boxes and envelopes.  You can opt to package your items yourself, but make sure your parcel complies with your shipping carriers height and weight requirements for shipping there as that could affect both the price of your shipment and maybe even your ability to ship as all. 

Shipping destinations in Iraq

The major cities in Iraq, such as Baghdad, can have parcels delivered within them fairly easily as they have the infrastructure set up for it.  The more rural areas (and in Iraq there are many) will not have these services.  If you intend to ship something to someone in one of these areas, they will most likely be requires to go to the closest larger city to retrieve their items.  They will need to bring proper identification, and possible other documentation, with them in order to have the parcel released to them as well.
