Security concerns when shipping to Haiti

Haiti has an unstable government which translates into most facets of their economy.  This is the main reason why shipping to Haiti can be risky.  There is infamous corruption in the Customs office with packages being stolen or given to the wrong people.  Also, most every country has a duty system whereby the assess a duty, or tax, upon your shipment if it is declared above a certain value.  In Haiti this is an objective practice and sometimes fees are assessed higher than they are supposed to be assessed.  If you question the fees you are being charged, you should seek an appeal of the fee.
